2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban: Perfect SUV built on all-new chassis
Changes for all-new Tahoe and Suburban began with new architecture featuring independent rear suspension and a longer wheelbase.
New architecture targeted enhancements central to the needs of full-size SUV customers, including personal accommodation, cost capacity, driving dynamics, and external proportions.
A longer wheelbase and new chassis systems create more driving smoothness, especially on uneven sidewalks and unpaved surfaces, with improved manipulation.
The cost floors of the vehicles are significantly lower, providing a more natural seating position and a remarkable gain of 10 inches (254 mm) of the third row of the legroom with a large increase in the cargo space.
Tahoe: Leader expands with 66 percent more cargo space
Already America’s best selling Full-size SUV accounting for more than 25 percent segment redesigned fifth-generation 2021 Tahoe features a significantly more usable place.
With a 4.9-inch (125 mm) longer wheelbase and a 6.7-inch (169 mm) increase in overall length compared to the current model, Tahoe offers a 40 percent more third-line foot and 66 percent greater load volume per the third line.
Profit from space is achieved effectively; While the maximum cost room increases 30 percent, Tahoe’s total length increased less than 4 percent.
Suburban: A legend of backups with even more inner space
As the longest-running label in automotive history for 85 years, Suburban founded the segment and remains a trusted partner for customers who need maximum space.
With a 4.1-inch (105 mm) increase in wheelbase and lower cargo flooring, the new Suburban has the most passengers and cargo space of an SUV.
Legroom increases as a second-and third-row passenger, and the maximum volume of cargo extends by 19 percent, while the total suburban length increases less than 1 percent.
For the first time, Tahoe and the suburban second-Row seat can glide, setting approximately 5.5 inches (140 mm) forward or backward.
Both seats of the second and Third Council also fold lighter, and the load floor is now as flatter and lower than the previous models-improving the ease of loading and unloading. The rear-door openings for Tahoe are also larger, thanks to an increase in wheelbase.
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Engine Performance
2021 Tahoe and Suburban are powered by V-8 engines, which are among the most advanced in the history of Chevrolet, as well as the all-new Duramax Turbo-Diesel Engine. All are matched with a new 10-speed automatic transmission with electronic shift control.
5.3 L V-8 rated for 355 hp (265 kilowatts) is the standard for LS, LT, Z71, RST, and Premier models, and 6.2 L V-8 rated 420 horsepower (313 kW) is a high-level standard. Both features industry-the the first dynamic fuel management technology, with over 12 modes of deactivating cylinders designed to optimize engine efficiency in a wide range of driving conditions, including when pulling a trailer.
Motors also feature automatic Stop/Start technology, direct injection, and variable valve timing, which all contribute to balance performance and efficiency.
Optional Duramax 3.0 L inline-six Turbo-diesel is available on all models except Z71. It is a clean-Sheet motor design developed for full-size truck and SUV applications, where torque means everything for sure, on-demand strength, and trailering capabilities.
Duramax is rated at 277 hp (207 kW) and a strong 460 lb-ft (623 nm) of torque. No competitor SUVS Full size offers a diesel engine. It is expected to give a new SUV some of the highest fuel ratings in the segment.
Highly durable materials make up 3.0 L Duramax critical components, including iron cylinder inserts in an aluminum engine block, forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, and mixed silicon/aluminum pistons for greater heat resistance and reduced expansion.
Since trailering is important for many full-size SUV customers, the new Tahoe and suburban include the new trailering technology pioneered by Silverado pickups.
There is a Max Trailering package that includes a high capacity radiator and cooling fan, integrated trailer brake controller, guidance with Hitch View, and Chevrolet trailering App. Tahoe and suburban drivers will have up to nine camera views – more than any competing full-size SUV.
Available features are designed to help improve trailering experience with easier Hitching using rear camera guidelines, strengthening confidence when pulling a trailer.
Other features include trailering App with trailer profiles, trailer tire pressure and temperature monitoring, and lateral Blind zone Alert1 for trailering.
Tahoe and Suburban will have a Chevy industry-first trailering label located on the driver side of the side door jamb. This label provides customers with the information needed to calculate the exact capacity of the vehicle.
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Specs
To improve the driving experience, engineers for 2021 Tahoe and Suburban have developed an all-new chassis that integrates a longer wheelbase span and independent multi-line rear suspension.
In addition, all-new models offer both the Air ride adaptive suspension system and the magnetic driving Control – offering no competitor – which brings even more body control.
The independent multi-link rear suspension fundamentally transforms the driving dynamics of Tahoe and suburban, allowing each rear wheel to handle road conditions separately to significantly increase driving quality, steering response, and overall driver control compared to the previous design of live axles.
Tahoe and suburban new multi-link independent rear suspension, which consists of three side shoulders, large longitudinal arm, coil springs, and rugged stabilizer Bar, offers a ride of sophistication and insulating properties typically associated with smaller vehicles but scaled down for outstanding eligibility requirements of full-size SUV.
The Air Ride Adaptive Suspension is available on High Country and Z71 models and provides automatic load balancing and driving height adjustment. The height of the ride height can be adjusted up to 4 inches (101 mm).
When driving on the highway, the system will automatically reduce the driving height of 3/4-inch (19 mm) to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. The driver-selectable setting reduces the suspension of 2 inches (51 mm) to support the entry of passengers and exit when the vehicle is parked.
Drivers can also raise the body for additional ground clearance when driving off-road by 1 inch (25mm) at low speeds in 4WD HI, and another 1 inch (25mm) at lower speeds in 4WD Lo.
Tahoe and the suburban feature of one of the industry’s most sophisticated chassis technology in the magnetic driving Control, which is standard at Premier and High Country, and available at Z71.
It is one of the fastest responsive dampening systems in the industry, using sensors constantly “read” on the road and change the speed of damping shocks almost instantaneously.
It reacts much faster than traditional dampers to reduce rebound, body roles, and vibrations that can often resonate in a large SUV.
2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Specs: Security Tech
Chevrolet expands key security and lighting functions for all-new Tahoe and suburban, with automatic emergency Braking1 standard on all models.
A recent study by the University of Michigan Transport Research Institute has analyzed the effectiveness of active security technologies, showing a dramatic reduction in some types of accidents on vehicles equipped with advanced security features, including 21 percent reduction crashes with forwarding collision warnings.
