2021 Chevrolet Suburban Cost, Engine and Interior Chevy are reinventing its oldest nametag with the brand new 2021 Suburban – and it’s bigger and better than ever.
It shares a lot with the redesigned Chevy Tahoe; However, its extra length and newly introduced independent rear suspension bring more cargo and space in the third row.
These features make the ‘Burban the largest SUV to carry a fly and a serious competitor for enormous alternatives such as the Ford Expedition Max. In addition to the well-known V-8 engines, the Chevy now has a diesel option with a lot of torque.
Of course, it also offers a wealth of mandatory devices such as contemporary driver assistance and countless infotainment features. The Chevy Suburban 2021 is scheduled to go on sale in mid-2020.
What’s new for 2021 Chevrolet Suburban?
The 2021 Suburban introduces a brand new generation that offers significant improvements. The most notable update is the SUV’s first independent rear suspension.
This allows for much better inner packaging, which frees up space in the hold and in the third row. The Suburban is also longer than before and equipped with more technology than ever before.
These include original equipment such as an air suspension and a reduced Duramax diesel engine.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban Interior, Comfort, and Freight
Compared to its predecessor, the entirely new 2021 Suburban loading and passenger compartment is significantly larger.
The second and third-row have a few inches more legroom, and the seats in the second row add adjustments so they can now push the front and butt.
The loading area of the Suburban is also increased by 23 cubic feet (a total of 145); the loading floor is flatter and lower, thanks to the new design and the independent rear suspension of the suburban.
Most of its popular options, such as wireless phone charging and heated and ventilated seats, have been available so far, but the head-up display and digital meter cluster display are larger than before.

2021 Chevrolet Suburban Engine, Transmission and Power
A pair of V-8s and a diesel six-cylinder complete the Suburban engine range. All are connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission and either rear or all-wheel drive.
A 355 hp 5.3-liter V-8 is the standard engine on all but the top tier High Country model. It comes with a standard 420 hp 6.2-liter V-8, but can also be equipped with the optional 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel. While the latter pumps out only 277 horses, its torque of 460 lb-ft binds that of the larger V-8.
The 2021 Suburban can also be equipped with adaptive dampers and adjustable air suspension. The latter makes it possible to lower or increase the driving height of the suburb automatically and manually.
This allows for improved accessibility, aerodynamics, and ground clearance. If you are looking for sporty stylings such as darkened exterior cladding and 22-inch wheels, you should see the RST model.
The more robust-looking Z71 trim stage features 20-inch wheels wrapped with off-road tires, underbody skid panels, and a two-speed transfer housing for traditional all-wheel drive.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban Fuel Consumption and Real-World MPG
We know which engines will power the suburb in 2021, but we don’t know what fuel economy the government will give them.
The optional diesel engine will probably be the most economical, and the larger V-8 should be the least efficient. Both gas drives use fuel-saving technology that includes auto-stop/start and cylinder deactivation.
Once we are able to test the brand new Suburban models on our 200-mile highway route, we can evaluate their real mpg.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban Infotainment and Connectivity
The transportation of modern families also requires entertainment, and the 2021 Suburban has no shortage of infotainment and connectivity features.
Along with an optional rear-seat entertainment system that includes two 12.6-inch screens behind the front seats, each model has extensive charging ports in the cabin and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Likewise, a standard 10-inch touchscreen is integrated into the mid-stack and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban Safety and Driver Assistance Functions
The 2021 suburb has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Nevertheless, it offers a range of modern driver assistance technologies as well as an innovative support for towing positions. Key security features include:
- Standard forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking
- Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning
- Available lane-keeping warning and lane-keeping assistance

2021 Chevrolet Suburban Price
The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban will have a starting price of $52,995 (including a $1,295 destination charge), according to data from Cars Direct.
This will make the new SUV the same price as the outgoing generation. In comparison, the smaller 2021 Tahoe will have a base cost of $50,295.
The full Suburban lineup will also include the LT for $57,795, RST for $61,095, Z71 for $63,195, Premier for $66,595, and range-topping High Country for $73,595, according to Cars Direct info. Four-wheel drive is a $3,000 option.
One advantage of opting for the highest trim will be the availability of the 6.2-liter V8 making 420 horsepower (313 kilowatts). All other grades will use the 5.3-liter V8 with 335 hp (265 kW). Both of these will come with a 10-speed automatic.
Pricing and availability for the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six are not yet available, but the mill offers an estimated 277 hp (207 kW) and 460 pound-feet (623 Newton-meters) of torque.
The GMC Yukon XL is mechanically similar to the Suburban but is a bit more luxurious. It starts at $54,695 and can go as high as $75,395 for a four-wheel-drive Denali.
Both the 2021 Suburban and Tahoe ride on an updated platform that includes a multi-link, independent rear suspension. This should make the SUV more comfortable, and optional tech like Magnetic Ride Control and Air Ride Adaptive Suspension create an even more compliant ride.
The 2021 Suburban is 1.3 inches longer than the previous generation, and the wheelbase grows by 4.1 inches.
Inside, there’s a total cargo capacity of 144.7 cubic feet, which is 19 percent more. Folks in the third row have 10 inches more legroom.
Deliveries of the new Tahoe and Suburban will begin around the middle of the year.
